Chapter 5

It is afternoon, when Mika leaves the hospital again. Of course she could not get announced the results of the tests that she had made a few days ago, by her 'doctor of confidence'. This has to do more important things this moment: playing a game.
To be honest, she is revealed, that Larry had not the ability to tell her the news. It was another doctor, whose name she cannot remember.
With a heavy sigh she opens the door of the glass front, which leads to St. Eustace Hospital. The sun radiates toward her. Winter is close...
"Oh yes... the fall is the end of all life... It's the omen of death..." she smiles sadly. So much she would like to have prevented testing Mark and Larry, but they did not just listen to her. After all, Hoffman is her father and Gordon is a 'father figure'.
With a melancholic mind her view wanders over the parking lot. The shadows are getting longer and the paint of the many vehicles shimmers peacefully in the sunset. This park is similar to a sea. Quiet and shimmering. Nevertheless, it can be dangerous... The noise of the street is reminiscent to the waves. It is relaxing.
This is the reason, why Mika closes her eyes. She does not want that Anika is worried about her. But this makes a true friend... be worried about the other, even if this does not want. For her she is like a sister, but Mika can - and must not- tell her her most intimate secrets. How would Ani react, if she figures out at that Mika is a 'heiress' of John Kramer? Her sister was tested by Jigsaw! Her father is the leading investigator in this case - since Hoffman had killed Erickson- and his best friend was even suspected - for a while- being this so-called 'serial killer'...
She would think that this friendship was just because of the information Mika got. Just after her test they had started to meet and recognize each other. After all, it was Alexander, who introduced Peter Strahm, by which her freedom was saved - with manipulated evidences and statements from Mika- already more than one time. He also told her that, except of Amanda Young, even more complicities have to exist. His theory was that at least one of them had access to the investigation files. Peter told her about Kerry's last message: "Open the door and you will find me. I'm not the only one who is in danger. Two of my colleagues are also in danger..."
Actually, John had planned a game for Rigg and Eric - against what Mika had protested (because of Daniel) very loudly-. But when she could not stop him to involve Matthews, she voted for Mark. Back then she knew, more or less, that he is her father. Therefore, as a little trick (and revenge, because he did not recognize her as his daughter), she drugged him after he wrote the letter for Amanda. His face was indescribable when suddenly a Pighead was in his front and sent him into the realm of dreams. Everything had to look authentic. That was the reason, why she had not missed the chance to beat him on the nose. But that he could not really die, she manipulated the 'Electrified Chair' that Mark could, in the worst case, break the straps on himself...
Once again she smiles in a melancholic mood. It is incredible how fast a week can change everything. Eight days ago she would have had no trouble seeing herself as Hoffman's daughter, and to call him 'Dad'. Now she is ashamed for the fact that he might die because of her.
Slowly she opens her unusual eyes, but at that moment, when she realizes who stands in front of her, her heart makes a quick, startled dropout.
It is Anika. At the bottom of the stairs her father is waiting for her.
"Ka, I don't wanna argue with you... I'm just worried... Something is not right with you and I wanna help you... It was stupid of me to call ya with your real last name, but I had the hope that you would tell me - in anger- what's wrong with you. I'm really so sorry... ", the expression of the older is guilty. Just as her voice.
Previously Hoffman's daughter would have been hard... But times are changing. Mika approvingly nods, "It's okay, Ani. I can understand that you want to know what's wrong with me for some time... Believe me, soon you'll understand. I have to think for a while... But... to be honest, even I don't exactly know what's going on in my upper story. ", the Alice band wearer laughs dryly. So Anika does. But after a few seconds the latter stops. Interested, she looks at Michaela's right hand. This holds a Din A3 large envelope.
"What did the doctor say?" She asks, pointing to the envelope.
"Oh...  it's all right. I just have to double the dose of the medication I take for heart rhythm disturbances. This here," she gently moves her right hand, "I have to give my doctor when he gets back. He has the day off... This is the documentation of my MRIs, EKGs and my blood levels. In addition a recipe for a couple of pills I need..."
"I see." The young Thomis grins, "Can you give me a couple of them then?"
Ostentatiously Mika turns her eyes. This fun question was bound to happen, "Absolutely."
"Okay... Is really a picture of your brain in there? We could use it for our Biology Lesson. Then we could show WHERE clots most often are found."
"Sorry... Dr. Gordon needs this immediately. So I'll throw them in his mailbox, now.", of course Mika knows that he lives in the hospital, but otherwise she could not get rid of her best friend. She is a little pressed for time. Actually, she wanted to meet the other apprentices more than four hours.
"Can we take you?" asks Alexander. Startled, the young people turn to face him.
But before Anika could come up with the idea that they could do something together now, Michaela waves off, "No...  thank you. I'm gonna take the bus and go back to school. I'll drive with my car to Gordon. Lovely thought... but I have to mesh. After this my 'tests' are waiting for me.", exactly Mika does not lie. Tests are really waiting for her. Just a different kind, like Alex, or Anika, thinks... And she REALLY needs to do something for Larry. Even if he had not asked her to do that.
Amicably Michaela hugs her friend, "Take care yourself. Cherish your life and live happily. I'm grateful to have such a friend like you are...," a small tear rolls down her cheek.
"Ahhh, you too.", irritated Anika looks at her.
She dissolves the hug, "Thanks.", and walks down the steps. She just nods to Alex. He returns her nod and she walks towards the bus stop.
A confused Anika and a baffled Alexander look after her for some minutes.
